Hello everyone!
Today, I'm going to talk about a change in my diet that helped my cystic acne.
So as I mentioned in my previous post, I used an exfoliant for help rid active cystic acne.
However, I believed it was the change in my diet that prevented those annoying cystic pimples from coming back.
I read somewhere online that a dairy-free diet could help reduce acne and due to desperation, I tried.
It surprisingly worked for me and you have no idea how thankful I was.
So you might be asking, what is a dairy-free diet?
Basically, not consuming any form of dairy (okay it is obvious) but what exactly is dairy?
People that knew me know how much I love ice-cream, cheese, cream pastas, milk, custard, puddings, creamy soups, cakes and the list goes on.
All that goodness in these foods unfortunately contains dairy, which in turn contains 'animal sugar'. A more scientific name, lactose. I later found out that lactose was the cause of my cystic acne so I quit consuming any form of it.
How was I so sure dairy was the culprit?
I was always dairy lover, my skin always have small pimples and black/white heads in random in more oily parts of my face.
There was nothing unusual until I started getting cystic pimples as I don't usually have them.
Mostly of the cystic acne was cluttered on my forehead and eyebrow area. I did not any change to my diet whatsoever, neither was I consuming more dairy in my daily meals.
IT JUST HAPPENED.
New cystic pimples just started appearing one by one, and soon I having so many of them I lost count. It was probably about 5 - 8 of them and yes, it was depressing.
Anyway, I stopped dairy for one entire week and new cystic pimples stop appearing.
I disciplined myself to stop any consumption of dairy products for an entire week, which included any foods that contains milk/butter/cream.
I even went to the extend of looking at the ingredient list on food packaging before deciding to eat them. I may sound extreme was I was really determine to find cause of my sudden cystic acne outbreak.
After one week,
No new cystic pimples appeared. Nothing. Just the same 5 - 8 active cystic pimples and I saw that they just remained the same size. Not getting bigger, or more painful.
(It used to get bigger and more painful, but still no head ugh)
Trial 1:
I was still uncertain whether dairy was really the cause of my cystic acne, soooooooo I gave myself a good treat of ice cream (after one week of controlling my love and craving for all that goodness)
NEXT MORNING BAM A NEW CYSTIC PIMPLE
I'm not even joking when I said a new cystic pimple appeared the next morning. The minute I woke up, it was there.

Trial 2:
Still feeling skeptical because I was not ready to give up dairy in my life, I decided to try another week of dairy-free diet again.
And after one week of 'suffering not being able to consume dairy', I ate ice cream again!
Nevertheless, this time I was convinced because next-morning-waking-up-shit repeated.
A new cystic acne pimple appeared.
Now, how could it be that during the two separate weeks which I was on the dairy-free diet, no new cystic pimples appeared. However right after I consume dairy, the next morning I have a new cystic pimple?
Well, I answered my own question and found out dairy was really the cause of cystic acne for me.
Conclusion:
1) I found out that dairy caused
new cystic pimples to appear on my forehead/eyebrow area
2) I found out that dairy caused
active/current cystic pimples to 'grow' bigger and become more painful.
I have been been on this dairy-free diet for about a year now and I found that my skin has improved drastically.
Along with the use of Paula's Choice Liquid 2% BHA Liquid and the use of Innisfree Whitening Pore Cream, the products helped me get rid of remaining active cystic and acne scarring.
Disclaimer:
This dairy-free diet might not work for everyone. It just so happened worked for me and I am truly lucky able to find the cause of it without much effort.
My cousin has the same condition as me (cystic acne on forehead and brow area) and for hers the cause of it was chilli.
I'm glad she managed to find out what was the cause of hers because it is different for everyone.
I hope through this post you can learn a thing or two on how to improve your skin.
Don't ever give up and be patient because the results will be worth your effort and time :)
